Venture south to Diana Lowenstein Fine Arts and discover Indigo. Its a collaborative exhibit by Chicagos Laura Kina and India-based artist Shelly Jyoti, built around the plant that has long been symbolic of Englands colonial heritage in India. Working together since 2008, the artists share a mutual interest in textiles. Jyotis Indigo Narratives series employs traditional embroidery and embellishments belonging to traveling ethnic communities in coastal Gujarat. Meanwhile, Kinas Devon Avenue Sampler series focuses on a contemporary Desi/Jewish community in Chicago.
