Some couples can’t agree on anything. Who will pick up the kid from day care? Who will take out the trash? Who will scoop up the dog poop? Who will decide who decides? But for Frances Trombly and Leyden Rodriguez-Casanova, both prolific Miami artists who happen to be married, working side-by-side in a studio while raising a young daughter and pet dog is part of their domestic discipline and collaborative work ethic. “Come Together,” their exhibit at the Bass Museum of Art, seamlessly fuses their talents, balancing the handcrafted and the mass-produced. For this, their second joint project, Trombly has created installations inspired by everyday objects, such as Mop, a sculpture fashioned from hand-spun silver wool and cotton. Rodriguez-Casanova, who knows his way around the corner hardware store, works with home-decorating items to deconstruct the domestic environment. The handy hubby has created an installation featuring a section of ceiling, vertical blinds, and a chandelier, skewed at an angle. Their intriguing works come together in a perfect marriage of contrasting styles where the soft and rigid combine in conceptually playful ways. Check out the exhibit this Sunday, when the museum opens at noon. “Come Together” is on display through June 19.
Wednesdays-Sundays, noon. Starts: April 24. Continues through June 19, 2011
