Bon Voyage

Fresh from the main season’s finale, Romeo and Juliet, Miami City Ballet offers its hometown public one last weekend to celebrate the company’s 25th anniversary and wish it well on its Paris honeymoon, during Open Barre. This Friday and Saturday at MCB’s 200-seat Wolfson studio theater in South Beach, the company will perform excerpts from George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments and La Valse as well as Twyla Tharp’s In the Upper Room. Raise a cocktail glass in the lobby (open bar sponsored by Bacardi USA) and preview selections of the repertory that the company will take overseas. Théâtre du Châtelet invited MCB to perform 17 different programs within a three-week tour in July. The seventh edition of the Etés de la Danse festival marks MCB’s Paris debut. In addition to Balanchine and Tharp ballets, the tour will also feature work by American choreographers Jerome Robbins and Paul Taylor, as well as the UK’s Christopher Wheeldon.
Fri., April 22, 7 p.m.; Sat., April 23, 2:30 & 7 p.m., 2011
