Uncle Luke, the man whose booty-shaking madness once made the U.S. Supreme Court stand up for free speech, gets as nasty as he wants to be for Miami New Times. This week, Luke addresses Gov. Rick Scott's alienation from African Americans.
Last week, good ole Gov. Ricky tried to explain to a group of 20 Democratic state legislators he was just like them. He noted that he "grew up in the same situation as you guys," explaining that he "started school in public housing," and his daddy "had a sixth grade education." Scott forgot to mention that he also drove a Gucci Cadillac and wore snakeskin leather shoes when he was a teenager. Our governor was just trying to remind the lawmakers that they are still black. That's all.
Unfortunately, Ricky didn't know that most of those black legislators did not grow up in public housing. Some come from middle-class or wealthy families. Ricky didn't understand that he was addressing the Huxtables. Maybe he was just conducting a test to find out how black those politicians really are. After all, if any of them were really from the neighborhood, they would not have been able to contain themselves. Someone from the ghetto would have gone Antoine Dodson on Scott's ass and told him, "Hey Rick, that is some fucked up shit you just said."
Instead the black lawmakers waited until after the lunch was over to voice their complaints. How dare he call us black? they must have thought. But they should cut Ricky some slack.
Maybe he really does empathize with African Americans who have a sixth grade education and live in the projects. Perhaps the governor is hinting that he'll soon scrap the FCAT. I mean, he's already announced a plan to end state support for two historically black colleges and abolish a state office that helps minority-owned businesses get state contracts. Maybe next week, we'll hear Scott say he is going to increase funding for D- and F-schools in the inner city, give them more resources, and hire the best teachers.
We already know he came up with the great idea of reforming welfare programs by drug-testing poor people. That's how he is going to create jobs and get back all the money he invested in his campaign. I can't wait for him to come out with his new healthcare company, Weed Welfare Finder, so I can purchase some stock when it goes public.

I think we would be better served to remember Rick Scott is out to screw the poor, not just the poor os color! And that gives us a bigger base to fight back at him with, if we just say people of color are being discriminated against it dosent go as far reaching as people of low income or no income.
Is it too late to blame W as well? Another blame game being played. Take responsibility for your community. Like Jacko the child molester said " Look at the man in the mirror"
Luv ya Luke. Keeping it real is Nasty as it should be. We should recall Little Ricky he's starting to show his true color GREEN, and thats not for the states pocket but his.If he cant make money from it he does'nt want it ie:supertrain, prescription drug (pain killers)data base, just to name a few. Its time for Florida to ride the RR and that aint railroad its RECALL RICK train
We need more talented, honest and truthful writers, like Luther Campbell! I am a 63 year old, white, middle income man who learned a long time ago that prejudiced people try to lower others because, in their dimwitted minds, lowering someone else makes them believe that they are more worthy themselves. In truth, millions of ignorant, prejudiced rednecks are still ignorant rednecks. There is good and bad in all races of people. You can't tell who's who by the color of their skin, only by the compassion in their heart. Keep up the good work, Luther. You are one of the good guys.
I am seeking supporters of officially 'impeaching' Rick Scott. I realize that this is a complex process, however, it is very successful in getting the attention of citizens who are truly concerned about the direction this man is taking this State. Governor Crist made a few valid suggestions to assist the black people in this State who have been 'illegally' detained and other outrageous acts of deprivation as per the US Constitution, but he failed to be proactive on this suggestions. Now there is this Rick Scott, who is vehemently trying to bring back the KKK and supporting all hate groups and endorsing the 'good ole boy' ideology of 'blacks are only one-eighth of a person. It is time to show and call for the impeachment of Rick Scott. Every teacher, parent, student and sound minded person in this State of Florida owe it to themselves to vehemently pursue this avenue to keep this State and country going forward instead of backwards. We must be concerned with unity and peace, not separation and war. Rick Scott ideologies promote terrorism! Get rid of RICK SCOTT!
I am not surprised at Rick Scott. This is the same fool who vetoes HIGH SPEED RAIL without even listening to the offers of PRIVATE companies who were going to work things out for him...The man is a nut. And his past may have criminal records.
This writer is an idiot. It is always about the "feel sorry for me" attitude he wants to project. I am white. I grew up during the 1960's riots in East St. Louis. I made it a success of myself and I didn't blame anyone for my poverty stricken home. This balck guy wants to rab on to the bandwagon of blaming whitey for all the ills and poverty in the inner city. Sure....poverty and lack of education exist only partial to funding. But it is the community that makes a better place to live. Not reliance on the goverment for handouts. People like this writer always will have a manipulation of why his community is a failure. But after growing up in the roughest neighborhood in East St. Louis, I blame the fathers and mothers who allow the children to fail for not having guidance or morals in the upbringing. Take a look at the homefront before you continue to blame whitey for your problems.
keep crying luke. the bottom line is that the so called hijacked "tea party" members in government spanked you. enough with the taxes, get rid of the fed, and the CIA. you seem to have all the answers. by all means, run for office
Even the Miami New Times has the most hateful, racist and bigoted comments. This place is almost as bad as the Miami Herald comment section. The commentators here really know how to show their true colors. Disgraceful. There should be a rule that you must have all your teeth in your head before you can post comments.
Rick Scott may be clueless about the political machine as well as the Black culture. Caucasions of which I am one all know that when ever you disagree with a Black you are a racist. I for one long ago stopped seeing color in business and employment. I have learned to diffferientiate between people who work and those who do not.The people who work and succeed do not have color. I have learned also that many Black people enter the work place with the approach of being black and use it as an excuse to work less and then play the race card. Rick Scott understands business and the fact that the peole he was addressing were not from the the economicaly deprived but represent them. He related to the people the Black Democrats represent rather the the legislators.Luther Campbell however comes to work Black rather then a man with no color and plays the race card. He once again makes it clear that he is a racist and disgard of American culture and ethic. I happen to agree with Campbell that people on Welfare should not be drug tested. Lets work together to insure the chance of an overdose along with the murders that result from Blacks in the businesss of distribution. Shoot up Luther!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .
Whether you're a Democrat or a Republican, white or black, you should be able to see the truth here for what it really is...Rick Scott is obviously uncomfortable around blacks and hasn't a clue about how to reach out to them. He is so uncomfortable that he tried to establish connections with these black lawmakers based on stereotypical assumptions-ones they have probably been fighting against their whole lives. Be that as it may, I find it amusing that Luther Campbell feels he can pronounce judgment on anyone for anything after his own lewd history and legal issues. He becomes a voice of reason for all of us to heed? How did that happen?
The only thing you seem to be promoting here is bigotry of the worst kind. While most of us try and get past looking at humans as a black or white or whatever color, you continue to promote segregating people. To wit, this column has been the human interest story for several days now when it seems that the story lines change most daily. As for Scott, at least he's put himself on the line for the people's vote....and got it. Good, bad or indifferent, he's the go to guy for the next few years. If you have a beef....run for office....put up or shut up.
Rick Scott is a criminal (and will always be a criminal). He bought himself out of jail just like OJ Simpson.....Once a criminal always a criminal.
I cannot understand for the life of me how people listens to Ads and political rhetoric without using some common sense. As for as I know, I always teach my kids to not listen to criminals and most of the parents I know do the same thing....but as adults they seem to be contrary to it......they voted this crook into office b/c of the unlimited funds he swindled from tax payers (don't forget we had to pay to prosecute him) and the people were fooled by his rhetoric.
When will the public learn? Rick Scott well eventually irreversibly damage the future of florida. Part of it is making himself rich at the sacrifice of all the people who live here including the dummies that voted for him. He uses deceptive tactics to fool the public to get what he wants and afterwards laughs his way all the way to the bank.
Next time folks, before voting don't listen to all the mud slinging lies, empty lies/promises, and rhetoric. Do some research on the candidates and look at what and how their policies will affect the future. I highly recommend at this point in time to vote only for democrats. Get all those republicans out of office b/c they are backed by corporate sponsors that give them billions upon billions of dollars to help support their campaigns with false rhetoric to win. Next time.....vote wisely.
Luther, I love reading your comments. I wish I had the same feelings for Rick Scott, that not-knowing-a-single-thing-about-public-service ?!?#&!.
Scott is clueless about public service when it comes to public workers including teachers, firemen, and cops and his mission to reform FL pensions will fall flat.
This guy struts around as if he hasn't worked a day in his life and you know what; he has! He has paid his dues just like anybody else but the only problem is he has forgotten where he comes from.
Kudos to Luther! The only voice Scott has for the people of Florida - regardless of their skin color or wealth -- is for Scott himself. A shame that this narcissist acquired Florida's governor's chair. And a shame to all who voted him there!
According to http://www.treasurydirect.gov/..., the debt at the end of the 1980 fiscal year, on September 30th, 1980, was $907,701,000,000. On September 30th, 1981, it was $997,855,000,000. Averaging it out over the year gives a debt of $246,997,260.27 per day.
Reagan took office 112 days later on January 20th, 1981. The debt on that date could be estimated as $907,701,000,000 plus 112 x $246,997,260.27, or $935,364,693,151.
Bill Clinton was the first president to slow the rate of the accrual of debt after the current out-of-control spending began with the Borrow and Spend Republicans in 1981.
The final amount of the senior Bush debt was $4,174,218,594,232.91 (according to http://www.treasurydirect.gov/..., and Clinton became president on January 20th, 1993. Bill Clinton saw $1,553,558,144,071.73 added to the national debt during the eight years of his presidency.
However, from the start of fiscal year 1994 (7 months after Clinton became president), until the start of fiscal year 2002 (7 months after Bush took office), the amount of money paid toward interest on the existing Federal debt was $2,767,282,794,374.59 (http://www.treasurydirect.gov/....
Therefore, no amount of the national debt is attributable to Bill Clinton - his policies of higher taxes and reduced spending actually simultaneously reduced the debt and brought about the strongest economy since World War II, despite the fiscal disaster left in the wake of Reagan and the first Bush.
The debt was at $5,727,776,738,304.64 on January 19th, 2001, the last business day before George W. Bush took the office of president. The debt was at $10,628,881,485,510.23 on January 16th, 2009, the last business day before Barack H. Obama became president.
During his administration, George W. Bushincreased the national debt by $4,901,104,747,205.59and personally approved of the creation of 46% of the entire national debt,in only 8 years.
Oh come on new times, you take what this idiot has to say as gospel ???? I am sick and tired of hearing about the "poor black existence". If you actually show up for school and not bs all day, stop impregnating underage girls all day, dress like you know what 2+2 equals, you might not be in the situation you're in !!!! Poor black drug addicted is brought on by THEMSELVES !!!! It has NOTHING to do with racism, except reverse racism. Just look at that shining example of a black women assistant Fire Chief in Miami. UNQUALIFED from day one of her career, fearful of fire, imagine that, couldn't swim, no rescues there, and the big one NEVER took a Lt.'s exam, NEVER took a Capt.'s exam, NEVER took a District Chief's exam, went directly to administration from a very short stint in a station, claiming to be pregnant, never leaving administration after that and somehow, got selected to be a Assistant Fire Chief !!!!!(*&(^^! BUT, NOW she has been Federally indicted in mortgage criminal fraud, participating in a theft of over $10,000,000 YES 10 million dollars. What would you expect a "normal" administration to do when there is a "public trust" issue at hand, at least suspend her, NOOOOO the current BLACK Fire Chief said no, this is a private matter ?????(^*&^%# Talk about a double standard, wasn't there a Miami Police Chief, who took from a charity, LOST HIS PENSION and was dismissed from the employement of Miami. Come on Chief Kemp ( another UNQUALIFIED appointee) STOP BEING RACIST and at least suspend her. By the way, she is guilty as sin. Blacks make their OWN beds, stop playing the race card, it is NOT going to work anymore.
Rick Scott spoke the truth actually....can't fault him for that....most of those blacks were from the projects, low income, ect...so why get so defensive...he wasn't putting anyone down actually.....
Wow! This let's you know that ignorance is rampant! Can another Republican school him about making dumb assumptions. Oh, I forgot all Republicans do the same thing - he is in good company.
Florida is in trouble!!!!
Reform welfare by drug testing recipients,,,hmmm lets see now, the last a big politician had an idea about testing was bushwacked & bro Jebbie that have enriched their brother that produced so called tests. Now every look and see, and I would bet you that Scott is heavily invested in a company that,,,,wait for it,,,,Makes and administers drug tests! I can also bet you it will cost way more to test people than we would save from any so called drug abusers being kicked off welfare. It's all about the money folks, ignore that guy behind the curtain.
Thanks, Mr. Campbell. Loved your article. Once again, Governor Rick Scott really "put his foot on his mouth."
maybe some other member of 2 live crew is avaiable for writing stupid crap on this blog??? rick scott was pandering like a white liberal ( yes I know he is a conservative) telling them, he is just like them but that does not take away from how he intends to clean the mess and wasted tax payer $$$$ in florida!! p.s. people on welfare should also be required to take birth control or lose the handouts!!!!!!!!
You are on a one-way train to hell. But I don't believe you know who you are; you are your father's child - Satan! When you face Jesus you will see that very person you hate, A BLACK MAN!
Seems to me that its you promoting the bigotry. This is 2011 and most Americans don't see color of an individual. The only people that do are low class idiots like you. And no one is segregating anything. Clearly you are a Rick Scott lover and voted for him. I rest my case. :barf:
I agree with you 100 percent! I am very middle-ground when it comes to politics. I do my research and I decide what is most important to me and my community/state/country and I vote accordingly. I work in law enforcement and his pension reform idea is insane. He is so quickly to prepared to put people out of work it is unreal. Plans to let go hundreds of corrections officers are already in place (a profession that is already highly understaffed), next come cuts to police, fire fighters and school personnel. Not for nothing the crime rates and education level are not so great that we can afford less patrol and we especially cannot afford less teachers. I have voted for both republicans and democrats in the past, but this is one guy who has no business being in politics.
Are YOU black? Did you READ what Luke was saying? Rick Scott was talking to a group of black professionals which most likely didn't grow up in poverty. Believe it or not John, A LOT of black people have NEVER seen the projects and I am one of them.
How is that racist? Rick Scott didn't know his audience. That would be like Obama going to a bunch of Harvard elite saying, "I grew up on the farm, just like you.".
He spoke the TRUTH dammit! why are all you idiot democraps starting shit for something that is not there. Show me where he put anyone down. Are they all from projects, low income, ect... YES!!! ABSOLUTELY!!! They overcame and became someone (unlike the freeloaders that are living off OBAMA and his government) and are now in public office.
How is that different from someone who grew up with little or nothing, nil education, yet still made himself a millionare and now is governor.
I just don't get it guys.
Campbell....keep up your racist posts....you don't change because you have nothing better to write.
Papa Losa needs a nice, hard wedgie, to learn his lesson.
But, that's probably why he supports Rick Scott making up the deficit by taking the money from education. Maybe he'll be considered of average intelligence amongst the new wave of completely ignorant Florida grads.
Funny article though!
I find it unbelievable the amount of hatred and racism you see in this country in this day and age! And "code1" there is no such thing as reverse racism-racism is racism-something you seem to know all too well. I guess you are not too embarrassed by it, kind of like how you are not embarrassed about your spelling errors.
Thank you Ed for pointing out there is no such thing as reverse racism! I cannot stand it when people I work with use that term. I just want to smack them and remind them that just b\c white people were historically extremely racist towards black people, doesn't mean that it is different when black ppl are racist towards white ppl. Thank you for making sense!
