Have you heard of the hottest new club in Miami? It has everything: schizos, kite enthusiasts, an entire room of high-diving Muppets, and human backpacks (you know, short people who climb on your back and hold your drink and purse). Competition among Magic City nightclubs is pretty stiff, and now New World Symphony is getting in on the untz-untz action. Its Frank Gehry-designed performance hall at New World Center will be transformed into a nightclub for Pulse: Late Night at the New World Symphony this Friday at 10 p.m. The night will revolve around DJ Mason Bates, who discovered New York’s downtown club culture while studying composition at Juilliard. At Pulse, he’ll spin symphonic electronica with interludes from New World Symphony fellows, who will play contemporary pieces such as Frank Zappa’s “Dog Breath Variations.” Surreal visuals, including the Salvador Dalí and Luis Buñuel film Un Chien Andalou, will screen on the hall’s impressive projection sails. Forget the crazy Muppet antics at other clubs. Miami’s latest nightlife trend is dancing next to a violin soloist while a silent-film actress gets her eye slit by a razor.
