Rage Against the Unseen

José and Rosa are very much in love. They’re working in Spain — he as a construction worker and she as a housekeeper for an elderly couple, Señor and Señora Torres. But Rosa learns that dating José is like going out with the Hulk. When he gets into a heated exchange with his foreman that ends with the other man’s death, José hides away in the attic of the Torres’s mansion, unbeknown to Rosa or anyone else. Creeping around the house, José begins to spy on the Torres’s and discovers their mistreatment of his beloved Rosa. But because he can’t act on his anger — lest he be caught — he’s left to simmer in secret. Directed by Sebastian Cordero and produced by Guillermo Del Toro (Pan’s Labyrinth and Hell Boy), Rage(Rabia) is a love story, tragedy, and commentary on the conditions of working immigrants in Spain. It’s also a thriller that leaves you wondering how the volatile (and tad creepy) José will handle his growing madness. Rage opens Friday at Coral Gables Art Cinema and runs through February 17.
