Now that politicians are getting shot in the head, and Palin is belly crawling closer and closer to the White House podium, the only way we can stomach the news is with a spoonful of funny. So instead of staring teary-eyed at CNN, we catch the week’s biggest headlines via radio news quiz Wait, Wait... Don’t Tell Me, which is produced by Chicago Public Radio and NPR. That way, news of the largest mafia bust in recent history is immediately followed by an observation that mobsters probably don’t get to pick their own nicknames or else everyone would be called Cobra Laserface. Perhaps the only radio show with enough surrounding fanaticism to rival that of This American Life, Wait, Wait is making a rare stop in Miami. This Thursday, the group will record a program at the Arsht Center’s Ziff Ballet Opera House (1300 Biscayne Blvd., Miami) that will air Saturday. On Friday, the cast will perform and tape an evergreen show to be broadcast sometime in the future. Come peer behind your car radio for a glimpse of host Pete Segal, scorekeeper Carl Castle, and a panel of quick wit. (Cross your fingers that the panel includes Paula Poundstone, Mo Rocca, and Luke Brubank.) Test your knowledge of current events through Wait, Wait’s Bluff the Listener, Limerick Challenge, and Who’s Carl This Time?
