Gravity Matters

Are you able-bodied or disabled? Pause before checking either box — Jess Curtis/Gravity’s “Dances for Non/Fictional Bodies” may expand your understanding of those terms. As part of the 11th annual danceAble event, Tigertail and Florida Dance Association’s physically accessible component of WinterFest, Jess Curtis/Gravity offers multiple ways to explore what a body can do and what it can be. The San Francisco- and Berlin-based mixed-ability performance company is versatile: Concert vocalists and musicians, a juggling specialist, and a famous drag king are counted among its talented cast. Curtis’s production is a cross between, among other things, dance, theater, music, video, and circus. “Non/Fictional Bodies” addresses truths about the bodies we have and the harm we do to ourselves by striving to meet society’s fictional ideals. Gravity’s improvisation-based research process will be taught, discussed, and performed at Inkub8 with concerts at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. People with all abilities and disabilities are encouraged to participate.
