When you watch the premiere of Kourtney and Kim Take New York(and you will), keep your eyes peeled for the studded, black turban-plus-headband on the first K’s head. It’s from Gold Saturn, a line created by Miami designer David Jon Acosta. Cute and kitschy, his newest collection, Road Trip, is inspired by experiences traveling outside of the Magic City. The graphics give love to New York, feature dice from Las Vegas, and turn road signs feminine. But what about love for the MIA? Acosta hasn’t forgotten his hometown and plans to create Miami-inspired T-shirts in the spring. And true to the style of this resort city, he hopes to design beach towels and totes someday. His creations are flirty, casual, and comfortable and have been featured in Teen Vogue, Paper, and Nylon. His most popular T-shirt remains Prescription for Peace, a design that features a peace sign made of pills popular among the Williamsburg anti-war crowd. Gold Saturn may not be haute, but it’s definitely kind of hot. Gold Saturn will be presented on the runway at Grand Central by Mr. X on Saturday at 11 p.m. with music by DJs Mike Deuce and Jessica Who?.
