Jazzin' Up the Joint

Miami will get to experience what the New York Times refers to as “the standout jazz piano trio of the last 25 years” when pianist Keith Jarrett, bassist Gary Peacock, and drummer Jack DeJohnette come to town this Friday at 8 p.m. They will perform as part of the Arsht Center Knight Concert Hall’s Jazz Roots series, which Quincy Jones calls “the most important new concert and educational jazz series in America.” If you consider jazz to be more about skewed berets, smoky rooms, and finger snapping than about Kenny G’s saxophone, this concert is for you. To give you an idea of the jazz credentials of these cats: They’ve played with Miles Davis, Thelonius Monk, and John Coltrane. In other words: These daddies are the cat’s meow. Don your glad rags and watch the boys hit on all sixes.
Fri., Jan. 21, 8 p.m., 2011
