He quit because he doesn't like to lose and doesn't know how to take losses! Period. He can only coach one type of offense and without a quarterback like Tebow he knew that his system would fail. Brantley didn't have a chance because Meyer did not know how to coach differently. I work 60-80 hours a week and still find time for family time for a fraction of what he makes as a coach. And we all have ulcers and other physical problems that we have to deal with on a daily basis and we can't quit our job because we can't. We have to take care of our family. Losing is not fun or easy to take for anyone, especially for Meyer.

At the risk of sounding politically incorrect - you are a fucking retard. Urban Meyer quit because Cam Cameron is a thief? Really? Meyer quit because Cameron's dad tried to extort money from Mississippi State? You can't admit that Cam and his dad are thieves and extortionists because they are black. Go smoke another blunt homey.

Suicyco and Rich Nice are both me. I have two different accounts. Whatever.
-
01/06/2011 8:16:00 PM
That's called a "typo" you dumb ass! You scrutinized my letter with a microscope and found ONE grammatical error and felt the need to respond? Have you never made a typo, dipshit? I know the difference between "your" and "you're" but I fucked up. So what? Respond to what the fuck I wrote. And I'm not a redneck, but if I was, so fucking what? Would that make you better than me, you racist prick? I'm actually Cuban-American from Hialeah. Now go suck a big one, beyatch!
-
Joe 01/04/2011 10:14:00 PM
You need a comma between the two yous, friend. So, who's dumb?
-
O RLY? 01/02/2011 8:48:00 PM
wow. Mr Campbell you come across like the people on Twitter, Facebook and message boards you say UM doesn't want his kids to deal with.
Good job!

Writeagainsoon 01/02/2011 3:41:00 AM
You criticize the writer's grammar and then you use "your" when you should use "you're". Shame on you you dumb redneck.

I don't blame Meyer. In this dog eat dog world of sports dumping coaches left and right. Why start over to rebuild a team when he can do something better. He sure made a good anouncer the other day about the bowl game. Why not get paid to sit on your butt and talk then get aggravated rebuilding a team then take the chance of getting dumped becasue the talent is not there. or is not winning fast enough for the guys in charge!!.

maddison 12/22/2010 9:44:00 PM
I agree with rich nice. i'm only 13 and i realize how much of an idiot you are. Before you write anything trashing the Gators you better research your topic and know what you are talking about.
-
Rich Nice 12/21/2010 1:49:00 AM
Luke, did you interview Urban Meyer, his coaching staff, his family, or players? Of course not. You're just talking shit and the morons at the New Times are paying you for it. It probably takes you five minutes to write this crap, and it takes the editor an hour to fix all your grammatical errors. At the end of the day, you're just an uneducated moron whose too dumb to know how stupid he really sounds. You're a Gator Hater trying to hate on one of the greatest coaches in NCAA history, and certainly the greatest college coach in the history of the STATE of Florida. Why can't Urban devote more time to his family? He seems sincere about it. Maybe had you done the same thing, your estranged daughter wouldn't be talking trash about you on the internet. Before you get mad at me for writing that, think about the foolishness of your own comments aimed at Coach Meyer (and your comments are not based on any research or evidence). Secondly, Meyer resigned last year before the Sugar Bowl, not the SEC match-up. Thirdly, Cam Newton stole a laptop at UF, and when it happened, all you Cane fans were talking shit. Now you guys are singing a different tune. I'm sure you support Cam because he's black, but hate on Urban and Tebow because they're white. You didn't have a problem with UM when it was full of thugs, but now you want to hypocritically criticize Florida. My man, UM is IRRELEVANT. Nobody wants to coach there except high school assistants like yourself. You guys get the coach from Temple, after being turned down by virtually everybody. He's a nobody, who simply looks the part. Already Teddy Bridgewater decommitted. I'm not going to say "it's over" for the U, because IT'S BEEN OVER!!! Best QB in the country is Jeff Driskel, and he's coming to the real U, the championship U (like Louis Murphy said it before we whupped U): the UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA!!! We fill up our stadium every Saturday with over 90,000 people. Your rented stadium is always empty. Keep hating loser. Your washed up, and you could never rap to begin with. You can't even write! Even the Central High student newspaper wouldn't print this type of garbage. GO GATORS!
-
Jim 12/20/2010 11:20:00 PM
I suspect Urban Meyer would support Cam Newton if Newton had changed his ways. And perhaps Meyer didn't vote for Cam Newton over the character flaws that surfaced. The article has it's points which may have some validity, but without being 100% certain, they are like my comment, speculative conjecture.

Mr Jonez 12/17/2010 8:25:00 AM
The last thin I want to read is an article by Luther. New Times has reached an all time low. I think the local high school papers do a better job of journalism. The only thing I can use this crap for it to put it in a bird cage to collect more crap.
-
KC 12/17/2010 6:30:00 AM
Lmao, this guy is an idiot. This news paper should be ashamed to have ever hired such a piece of shit sports writer. First, the guy obviously lives under a rock. Urban Meyer did not announce his retirement before the SEC Championship game...it was before the Sugar Bowl. Also, he's a conspiracist. Having your own bold opinions on a team that has dominated your state for the past few years is a little radical. Sorry, but the Hurricanes suck. Doesn't give him the right to start blowin shit out his mouth. Florida has one bad year and he thinks the gate opens for him to talk shit about a guy that he knows nothing about. It's actually kind of funny that he mocked Urban as a person and a coach at the end of the article...yes, this is why Urban Meyer has two National Title rings. And what has this guy done? Write a terrible article on a great coach. Very classy. Really a good way to get people to like Miami.
-
carlos 12/17/2010 5:25:00 AM
Only a mullet wrapper newspaper would print this garbage. Wow!! I can't believe they actually printed this bullshit!! 6 Mullets to go please! No problem sir. We'll just wrap them in this edition of the New Times.

Geeee! I used the word ASSHOLE and my comment was deleted. Who did this Asshole (Luther)? Do you know?
-
Thechosenone 12/15/2010 11:03:00 PM
Only an ASSHOLE would use the word "ASSHOLE" in writing an article. Oh! I noticed you included your Twitter address so you must be one of the assholes that you write about.
Have a blessed day ASSHOLE!
-
Bruce 12/15/2010 10:56:00 PM
Is it possable to get your point across without using profanity? Enough already, this country is bad enough without throwing gas on the fire. An educated person would have found a way without further degrading our society. Clean it up and shame on you butthead!
-
Mark 12/15/2010 10:42:00 PM
Do you have a reliable source for these "facts" or are you just spouting bullshit, Luther? You're no authority on football or Urban Meyer. I think we'd all be better off if you just went back to writing profane lyrics for gangsta rap garbage. Your skills as a journalist leave a lot to be desired.
-
Luke's an idiot 12/15/2010 10:14:00 PM
Luke, I have read a couple of articles of yours and each one is more outragous than the last. This is the final straw. I'm not even a UF fan, so my opinion is objective. You are an idiot. It's is trash like yours that gives the media world a bad reputation. Have fun being the trash we all believe you are. Change your picture too, you just look like such a dumb shmuck/asshole
-
Mike 12/15/2010 9:33:00 PM
I can't believe Yahoo would have this TRASH on the front page. Total RUBBISH! Luther, you have lost what little respect I've ever had for you. Yahoo editors should be ashamed to promote this story as factual information.
-
lukeisanidiot 12/15/2010 9:11:00 PM
I am looking forward to the day that Luke is retired from writing more ridiculous articles. Hang it up Luke....you are an idiot. Meyer is satisfied with his impressive accomplishments, has made sufficient income that he can move on to different things. Luke the idiot is just bitter because the Hurricanes have become a mediocre ACC team...and will continue to be only that. I am a Hurricanes fan but we must accept that reality. The incoming coach Golden is not going to be able to make any improvements. The school doesn't have the money to compete with the big schools and cannot afford to pay coaches competitive salaries, plays in a usually half empty off campus stadium, and has obsolete training facilities. The Hurricanes are to be a mediocre ACC team and nothing more.
-
A monson 12/15/2010 8:42:00 PM
Maybe it's just me but could it be, maybe, poor Coach Meyer will end up in the NFL with the Broncos. Oops. Hello, Tim.

B-Dogg 12/15/2010 6:37:00 PM
While I don't doubt that the prospect of rebuilding UF played a role in Meyer's decision--and many of Uncle Luke's comments do have a grain of truth--taken as a whole, it was but one factor that led to his decision. After all, he had already built the team in his image once and was very successful in doing so (remember that last national championship?). While only Meyer can truthfully say how big an issue this was--and I'm sure he'll never do so--you don't just quit a job making millions a year because you don't want to perform one of the job's primary duties. There simply had to be more to it than Uncle Luke would have us believe. it's a sure bet that the prospect of rebuilding a big-time program while under a microscope had to play a role.
It's always risky when you try to assign singular motives to anyone's actions; humans can be very complex in their thinking and typically factor in a number of aspects before making such a significant decision. But I'll agree w/ Uncle Luke in one aspect: it's significant that Meyer didn't mention the prospect of rebuilding the team at all when outlining the factors that went into his decision.
BTW Uncle Luke, good luck w/ Dr. Phillips this week. It oughta be one helluva game.
-
K. 12/15/2010 5:45:00 PM
I agree with some of this article, I said it last year when he announced his retirement. Then Coach Meyer changed his mind because he knew it wouldn't be a good look. And as for the Cam Newton, if he was cheating he didn't deserve to be protected.
-
Carlos Beale 12/15/2010 10:30:00 AM
Many many things are wrong in your article, including:
"Meyer would be protecting him the same way he did Tebow"
When did he ever protect Tebow from anything? Tebow never had to be protected from anything.
I know you are a Miami fan, but try to be a little bit more responsible and smart with what you write.
-
devastator 12/15/2010 4:43:00 AM
luke, you are full of shit my man! you are just trying to shine the light off of what is going on at the formerly mighty "U". UM has not been relevant in a really long time and both you and i know that Al Golden is not going to go into the hood and be a successful recruiter. face it luke miami is a has been...a relic from the 80's...just like you son!!
ps. i've always been a fan of you and 2 live baby!!
-
Will 12/15/2010 3:09:00 AM
Luke, why would Meyers WANT to deal with the rebuilding process? Think about it, he's made millions, money is not an issue or a motivator. He's going to have to work harder, spend more time in the practice field, training room and looking over film. If his heart is not in it, if he's lost the passion to coach, and would rather spend more time with his family, then get out and give some one else an opportunity. If he stays for that recruiting class and continues to lose, they will question his ability as a coach, his desire, his passion... all the reasons why he's simply stepping down. By the way, the Broncos are looking for a new Head Coach. Meyers and Tebow, part II??
As for Newton, c'mon man! Dad is pulling in $150K out of nowhere and you pretend you don't know? I'm not buying it, but you know what... the truth is that college football has been a "business" for a long time now. Besides, what are they going to do - punish the school (kids that had nothing to do with it), take away your trophy years from now when you're making $100M in the NFL? Good luck with that!
