Saturday, Gold Coast Skating Rink will be full of hot, female bodies tackling each other on roller skates. The sport of roller derby is a fast, dangerous one: When the scoring player laps members of the opposing team, points get awarded, so from both ends, lots of blocking and tackling ensue. Females go down theatrically a la World Wrestling Entertainment style, but still violently enough for the matches to be called bouts. So when the Gold Coast Derby Grrls play against the Garden State Rollergirls there will be fun and danger (even for you). You can sit at a section marked off as the suicide seats, where these hard-hitting, super-fast girls can slam right into you. So make sure to bring your crash pad, rent one for $5, or buy one for $10 at the merch booth. They dont need it, but you can find your liquid courage at the rink: Gold Coast keeps a stocked bar. Bring your own chair or cushion as well. Music will be provided by the house DJ, George Van Orsdel. Tickets cost $10 to $12, kids under twelve get in for free, and there will also be some little ladies collecting donations for Toys for Tots.
