If young aristocratic a-holes and vodka tonics sound like just another day at the yacht club, you’re probably familiar with Tucker Max. He’s a frat boy’s wet dream, the Greek-row messiah worshiped by thousands of trust-fund-baby disciples. But Max’s story is interesting, even if it’s predicated on false relationships and sexually transmitted diseases. He gets wasted and exploits equally intoxicated women, often tiptoeing the fine line between consensual sex and date rape. Rarely has anyone reveled in being such a scumbag and done it so profitably. It’s easy to hate Max for his I-don’t-give-a-shit persona and preppy, pampered life; his $300,000 book advance only adds to the vitriol. But the blogger-turned-author-turned-screenwriter is, to some degree, a constitutional crusader. His new book, Assholes Finish First, is a continuation of his raunchy brand of humor, and it will inevitably piss off people. He’ll unapologetically say things that are so rude and vulgar you’ll want to punch him in the face, but that’s the beauty of the First Amendment. Whether you think he’s tasteless or brilliant, Max is exercising his constitutional right to express himself. The proud scumbag will continue selling his soul at 8 p.m. this Friday at Books & Books.
