Kama Sutra Kvetch

The Indo-Canadian community might not seem like a traditional hotbed of stand-up comedy, but then again, Sugar Sammy isn’t a traditional stand-up comedian. Able to perform in English, French, Punjabi, and Hindi, the well-coiffed jokester quickly broke out when given the opportunity to open for Dave Chappelle, rising from being one of Montreal’s best comedians to becoming one of comedy’s hottest international commodities. The Hollywood Reporter named him one of the top ten comedy talents in the world. If that isn’t enough to sell you, let us spell it out: The guy is hysterical. And he’ll be at the Miami Improv this weekend. With a style reminiscent of a young Eddie Murphy, Sammy bemoans the unfair expectations the Kama Sutra puts on Indian men, tells why he waits until after Valentine’s Day to find a girlfriend, and gives the pros and cons of arranged marriages. The meek should avoid the first couple of rows because Sammy is known for inflicting his wit on nearby audience members. Who knew multiculturalism could be so funny? He’ll perform this Friday at 10:45 p.m., with shows through Sunday. Tickets cost $17 plus the Improv’s two-drink minimum. Call 305-441-8200 or visit miamiimprov.com.
