You keep telling yourself you’re serious about going green, only to fill your Escalade with unleaded supreme while chugging mineral water from a plastic bottle. You’re torn. It’s not that easy to be good to the environment, to reduce your carbon footprint. But Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden will get you going in the right direction with its Edible Garden Festival. Who knew doing nature a solid could taste so good? The festival will include lectures on composting (dumping perishable trash in your garden instead of a trash bag) and permaculture (recycling objects in an attempt to mimic what Mother Nature does). It will also feature presentations on the slow-food movement, drip irrigation, and raised gardens. A farmers’ market will bring real flavor to the festivities, and a scarecrow competition will add seasonal flair. The fest begins this Saturday at 10 a.m. and runs through Sunday. Admission is $20 for adults, $15 for seniors, $10 for kids, and free for members and children 5 and younger. Call 305-667-1651 or visit fairchildgarden.org.
