Poets live in a state of perpetual observation, searching for meaning and beauty where others see barrenness. They dwell in the trenches, often acting as our greatest philosophers, reporting back in beautiful language. F. Daniel Rzicznek, a professor at Bowling Green State University and one of the top young poets working today, will bring his potent verse to the Magic City this Sunday in an event organized by the University of Wynwood. Asked about the role of contemporary poetry, Rzicznek, author of two poetry collections and one chapbook, said, “Art asks us to participate, to look at the world with fresh eyes, to open up to a new set of possibilities, and it’s easier to make fun of it than to risk even a sliver of genuine attention.” At the Bas Fisher Invitational event, Rzicznek will wax poetic from his latest collection, Divination Machine, from 5 to 6 p.m. The event is free.
