Oscar G at Mansion September 25

We in Miami treat our homegrown party boys like kings of the club. And local house head Oscar G wears one of this town's biggest, shiniest crowns. He has led a thousand wild warehouse orgies at Space, launched Billboard destroyers ("Fired Up" with Ralph Falcon) and underground booty bombs, and repped this subtropical city all over Planet Earth.

Lately, the seat of G's kingdom has been the weekly Tropicasa party at Calle Ocho's church of salsa, Hoy Como Ayer. Every Wednesday, he and a crew of court jesters dethrone the cabaret's regulars, turning the place into a musical chop shop where house, techno, funk, Afro-Cuban, and other sounds get disassembled and rebuilt. The result is a free-form experimental vibe that has bled onto G's hot new Nervous Records release, Live From NYC.

Now, the live slice of this two-slab set wasn't recorded at Hoy Como Ayer or anywhere else in Miami. (The taping was done at NYC megaclub Pacha. It's G's first live album recorded outside the 305.) But disc one of Live From NYC is still tinged with that same deep, exploratory Tropicasa flavor. Meanwhile, disc two is a ten-cut collection of Oscar G originals with a more direct link to the Wednesday-night banger. Alongside hard party singles such as "Fuck the VIP" and "I'm Movin' On," he also drops "Mueve Tu Cuerpo," a song starring Tropicasa contributor El Chino Dreadlion. It's one of those subtle nods to the Eighth Street beat.

The two-disc set officially drops September 28, but see a snatch or two this Saturday when G shines his crown and shifts his kingdom to Mansion for the homecoming release party of Live in NYC.
