Amid the cries of Team Jacob and Team Edward, there’s a faction of tweens chanting Team Vlad. That’s right — young adults have come to battle over who has the best vampire books. Stephenie Meyer is charged with making Twilight bloodsuckers too damn emo. There’s way too much talk about feelings, and the pansy Cullens actually sparkle when caught in the sun.

Meanwhile, in Heather Brewer’s The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod, the vampires’ flesh actually burns under UV rays. The series tracks half-vampire, half-human Vlad as he bites and sucks his way through high school. The fourth installment, Twelfth Grade Kills, publishes this week, so Brewer will be at Books & Books on Tuesday. Local band Courtesy of Paco will perform to keep her legion of minions — Brewer’s version of Twi-hards — pacified.
Tue., Sept. 21, 6 p.m., 2010
