If you’ve been watching Showtime’s hit series Dexter but not reading the source material, you’re missing out on novelist Jeff Lindsay’s take on the creepy world of Dexter Morgan. (Spoiler alert!) After the second season, the TV show took a drastic turn away from Lindsay’s vision. The biggest difference: In the show, Dexter’s wife, Rita, played by the eternally wounded-looking Julie Benz, died last year in a cliffhanger ending while the couple’s son lay in a pool of his mother’s blood, mimicking Dexter’s origins. In the book, Rita is alive and well as Dexter contends with a family life that includes a baby girl and two stepchildren who share his bloodthirsty inner voice, which he calls his “Dark Passenger.” But you already knew that, right? True fans will show up at Books & Books this Friday to grill Lindsay about the differences between the book and the series. Beginning at 8 p.m., he’ll sign and answer questions about his latest novel, Dexter Is Delicious. Pick up a hardcover copy for $25.95, and get into heated arguments with all of those diehard Dexterites.
Fri., Sept. 10, 8 p.m., 2010
