The final week of August was pretty much a condensed version of the Category 5 crap-storm that’s been the Florida Marlins’ 2010 season. It began with the team’s financial documents being leaked, exposing owner Jeffrey Loria and team president David Samson as liars who cried poor so that the city and its taxpayers would foot the bill for their new stadium. Four days later, starter Ricky Nolasco pitched on a bad knee and then gave up six runs in just two innings of work. The very next day, the Fish squandered a 6-1 lead over the Braves when relievers Jose Veras, Will Ohman, and Leo Nuñez imploded, culminating with a two-run game-tying home run and the eventual walk-off homer. Even worse, the defeat was yet another wasted performance for staff ace Josh Johnson, who pitched six masterful innings before the bullpen came out and crapped all over his good work. It was that kind of week. It’s been that kind of year.
