Sasha Bezzubov has a taste for calamity. The Ukrainian-American shutterbug has traveled the world documenting the aftermath of hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, and tsunamis. This Wednesday at 7 p.m., Bezzubov turns his incendiary lens on the West Coasts annual wave of uncontrollable blazes with Wildfire at Gallery I/D, a smoldering set of shots taken in California between 2003 and 2007.
These large-format prints depict the charred remains of ruined homes and vast stretches of glowing forests. In one, a copse of torched, leafless trees appears like a platoon of defeated, soot-caked soldiers staggering from a smoking battlefield on its march to obscurity.
Tuesdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 8. Continues through Oct. 20, 2010
