The House of Anger

If you dig satanists, blind albinos, and Mick Jagger, you’ll absolutely love Kenneth Anger’s Invocation of My Demon Brother. Made in the very dark year of 1969, this awesomely evil 11-minute masterpiece stars Anger, Anton LaVey (AKA the High Priest of the Church of Satan), Charlie Manson sidekick Bobby Beausoleil, and a mummified psychic. There are surface messages (“Zap! You’re pregnant. That’s witchcraft.”), subliminal messages, and a skronky synthesizer soundtrack by Jagger — plus documentary footage from a satanic cat funeral, a ceremonial skull-smoking session, and full-frontal male nudity. This Thursday at 8:30 p.m., Ai Miami International University of Art & Design and Sweat Records will copresent an exceedingly rare screening of Invocation of My Demon Brother. Two other Anger films from the ’50s and ’60s — Rabbit’s Moon and Lucifer Rising — are also on the program. Go, or Satan will get you.
Thu., Aug. 26, 8:30 p.m., 2010
