From Capone to Scarface to the Cocaine Cowboys, Miami’s history is chock-a-block with criminal legends that blur the boundary between fact and fiction. Too often, the true crime has been so brutal and unreal that it seems lifted from the silver screen. Conversely, blockbusters and documentaries play like the evening news.

So it’s appropriate that the “Crime in Miami” exhibit at HistoryMiami should end with Scene of the Crime, a look at the city’s violent past through the lens of a TV camera. Beginning this Sunday at 2 p.m., HistoryMiami’s resident historian, Dr. Paul George, along with Miami Dade College’s image archive director, Rene Ramos, will present a video screening of local and national crime coverage. Between clips, George and Ramos will break down the meaning of it all, searching beyond the blood and tabloid journalism for that line where truth and mythmaking intersect.
