For Better Word

Most people associate open-mike poetry nights with tie-dye, sneaky hits from Pyrex bowls, crusty flip-flops, and the stink of patchouli. But the Bohemia Room at Vlada Lounge is the “Boom Boom Pow” version of those hippie nightmares. Sure, there’ll be some political ranting, but it’ll likely be followed by Marvin Gaye’s “Mercy Mercy Me.” Resident DJ and house poet Anomaly chooses tracks according to the tone of the poet’s work onstage.

Host Ingrid B describes the Bohemia Room’s audience as sophisticated, college-educated, single urbanites in their mid-20s to mid-30s who are “grown and sexy.” The self-described “raunchy and hilarious” host offers the evening as something different from the regular weeknight. Every Wednesday evening, you can listen to poets pontificate about everything from sex to health care, down a few drinks, and meet some financially stable and intellectually stimulating hotties.
