Carol City All-Stars

Long a breeding ground for football phenoms and other elite athletes, Carol City Senior High has often enjoyed success on the field. The Chiefs won three state championships on the gridiron between 1996 and 2003. It’s also the alma mater of sibling superstars Santana and Sinorice Moss. But that triumphant sports history is mingled with tragedy. Labeled a “dropout factory” by Johns Hopkins, the school has seen its faculty and students too often fall victim to drugs, crime, and murder.

This Sunday’s seventh annual All-Star Basketball Game, however, will celebrate the best of Carol City. From midafternoon till evening, local youth leaders, celebrities, rappers, and NBA stars will arrive to watch and play alongside the community’s own. Arrive early for free school supplies, a bookbag giveaway, and the chance to win a new computer.
Sun., Aug. 8, 3-8 p.m., 2010
