Working With a Monster

Ours is long and strong with a big, fat head. Lots of people have told us it’s the largest one they’ve ever seen, even large enough to win a prize. When it’s hanging, slapped against our leg warming up, we can feel all the eyes at the bus stop staring at us. We know they’re jealous. We bet they wonder where we’re going. That’s when we hold up our monster and just enjoy the weight of it. After all, we’ve got the biggest beast in Dade, and we’re gonna show it off at Lizard Day at the Miami Science Museum.

This Sunday prizes will be given for the largest lizard, best in show, most unusual, and people’s pick — not to mention a special junior herpetologist award, referring to that branch of zoology dealing with reptiles and amphibians. Really, it has nothing to do with those burning blisters on your schmeckle.
