There must be some unwritten rule that youre not a true comic until youve stirred up some headline-worthy controversy. One of the founding Kings of Comedy, D.L. Hughley, was probably aware of this theory when he recently agreed to join the ladies of The View for a stint as a celebrity talking head. Pretty much all the hosts have had their share of public floggings thanks to voicing their views. Just the other week, Hughley and tenured host Sherri Shepherd put the comedy aside but still ruffled the feathers of the LGBT community with their theory that down low black gay men are responsible for the increased HIV infection rates among African-Americans. Let that be a lesson in sticking to what you know best, which in Hughleys case is getting laughs. Hell roll his act into town for a three-night stand at the Fort Lauderdale Improv this Friday night, with performances through Sunday.
