Just when we got in sync with the rhythm of the galleries and new exhibits opening every six weeks, along came summer. Don’t expect many new openings until fall, and some galleries might even close for the entire month of August. The current exhibit at David Castillo Gallery, “DCG Open,” is a gentle reminder that during these heatstroke months, Miami artists are inside their studios toiling to the gentle shushing of wall-unit air conditioning.

“DCG Open,” up through July 3, is an annual survey exhibit of 66 Miami artists. One of the highlights is John Zoller, who frames a Lichtenstein-esque man with a gun in bright flower puffs. Samantha Salzinger makes vast landscapes look like diorama models in her photography. A metallic collage by Carl Pascuzzi hints at the sensational online world via naked arms and legs and laptops open to perezhilton.com. Sarah Michelle Rupert’s photos show a young woman spooning with TV sets. See them all this Wednesday and keep the faith that although Wynwood is a ghost town, these artists are hard at work.
