The opening party for Pop Shop Don’t Stop, an exhibition of New York City Street Art from the 1980’s – Now. The opening party on Friday, May 21, 2010, also salutes what would have been Keith Haring’s 52nd birthday this year and celebrates this idol’s international career and contribution to art that was cut too short by his death in 1990. The exhibition features the three main panels of the ten panel Pop Shop Sign that hung on the front of Keith Haring’s retail store in Lower Manhattan in 1986. For the last twenty-four years, the ten panels have been stored in a private collection in Orlando. The three panels featured in Pop Shop Don’t Stop will be on display publicly in the U.S. for one last time before being sent to Europe. Truly a sign of the times, the Pop Shop Sign represents a specific time and place, New York City in the 1980’s. The exhibition includes a wide variety of art taken from the streets of New York City during the 1980’s created by notable artists Barbara Kruger, Paolo Buggiani, Ken Hiratsuka, Dombrowski, Red Spot, Liz & Val, Brooklyn Skip, On the Move, Linus Corragio, and Robin Van Arsdol (RV). Open bar from 8 until 9 pm with music by Edwin Adams (DHM, Nightdrive Miami www.nightdrivemiami.com) and cub (WPRK Winter Park - Rollins Radio, Brownsville, Fangs Out!, Battle-Ready).
