If you’re ever feeling too up, you can always count on a documentary to leave you depressed (thanks Capturing the Friedmans) or simply paranoid (we’re looking at you Food, Inc.). And this year’s DocMiami International Film Festivalis no different. The three-day fest is full of people overcoming troubles or just wallowing in them. Witness Friday’s 7:30 p.m. opening night feature, My Run, narrated by Billy Bob Thornton, where a widowed father decides to run 75 marathons in 75 days to publicize the hardship of being a single parent. We imagine single-parenting is even harder when you spend three straight months running away from your kids. Earlier in the day, see a bevy of short films that cover everything from the first Iranian women’s rugby team, a blind judo fighter, caste-based sexual exploitation in India, and a California tribal college. Saturday will lighten up a bit with a feature on Mexican music, Rock’n’Roll Made in Mexico, but things get real again on Sunday, the last day of DocMiami, with flicks on the Mariel boatlift and exiled Cubans. All films screen at the Doral Golf Resort and Spa
Fri., May 28, 7:30 p.m., 2010
