The Miami Contemporary Dance Company has officially entered the big-kid world of double-digit age after ten successful years in the South Florida arts scene. To commemorate the closing of its decennial season, MCDC’s artistic director, Ray Sullivan, is staging Swan & Pasta, which features two of the company’s biggest hits. “The Dying Swan” is a performance inspired by the famed 1905 dance by Anna Pavlova, portraying an elegantly dying bird. (And because this is modern dance and not Animal Planet, Sullivan cast a very attractive man as the expiring swan.)

Also in Sullivan’s lineup is “Nonna’s Pasta Dances,” inspired by his Italian family’s antics during a typical Sunday meal. Sullivan dances the role of Nonna, AKA Grandma. April 30-May 1, 7 & 10 p.m.; May 7-8, 7 & 10 p.m., 2010
