If we said, “I need some action,” a large portion of you would answer, “Tender satisfaction,” thanks to the earworm planted by Nadine Sutherland and Terror Fabulous back in 1993. Their infectious reggae hit “Action” was a Billboard hit stateside, and back in Jamaica, the Labour Party even used it as a campaign song — an odd choice considering it’s about men being bedroom bullies. Sutherland is the Tina Turner of reggae. Thirty years ago, she was the first artist Bob Marley signed to his Tuff Gong label, and she’s still pumping out reggae ballads and high-energy dancehall jams. See her at Miami’s oldest bar, Tobacco Road, for this Friday’s Reggae Soul Jam. Arrive early to catch opener Denyque, a Jamaican songstress representing the latest generation of the island’s sound.
