Those who hold a special place in their hearts for the macabre will revel in Let the Night Roar, the drum 'n' bass album from Ninja Tunes DJ and producer King Cannibal. This South Londoner takes his electronic productions down a darkstep path (or darkcore or skullstep if you prefer) and then takes the devilry further by slicing in snippets of dialogue from horror flicks. In "Colder Still," a sinister voice proclaims, "I believe in slime, stink, and in every crawling, putrid thing."

Although his superheavy, menacing dubstep sometimes gives way to perkier dancehall jams, Cannibal warns that the album is not intended for the dance floor. He prefers to think of it as an aggressive barrage of sounds that reveal new elements with each listen.

We've already declared 2010 the year of dubstep. But is the genre headed in this dystopian direction? Decide for yourself this Saturday as King Cannibal takes over Awarehouse with the help of organicArma, Juan BassHead, and MC Jumanji.
