Merengue, Mami

Remember Proyecto Uno? If you answered yes, you just dated yourself. Big time. These guys have been around, as the Spanish saying goes, desde el año de la corneta (since the year of the horn). Proyecto Uno formed in 1989, and in its 20-plus-year career, it has earned numerous awards and accolades, including Premio Lo Nuestro and Latin Billboard awards. You probably remember them best for their 1998 smash hit, “El Tiburón,” a mix of Dominican Republic merengue with hip-hop and techno. If you want to relive those days, get a crack at what the venue’s website calls “una gran rumba de bellas mamis y la gente más bella de Miami.” This Friday, head to La Covacha to bask in Proyecto Uno’s signature sound, AKA meren-booty, meren-rap, meren-house, etc. Doors open at 9 p.m., and tickets cost $15. Miami band Taboo Tambu will join them.
Fri., April 30, 10 p.m., 2010
