Haiti's devastating earthquake reminded 98 percent of us — the nonorthopedic surgeons, the nondisaster-area relief helicopter pilots, the nonconcrete-sawing collapsed-building search teams — just how impotent we are when it comes to helping people in desperate times. We write checks or cobble together fundraising concerts starring bands that didn't know the difference between Port-au-Prince and Pago Pago until mid-January.

Miami-born Haitian boxer Andre Berto (25-0, 19 KOs) is different. The WBC welterweight champ no doubt feels the same helplessness. He was to fight "Sugar" Shane Mosley until the quake sent him back to Haiti to find his sister. He lost eight family members in the disaster.

Berto literally beats up people for a living, but he'll do his part raising funds for the relief effort. His title defense against Carlos Quintana (27-2-0, 21 KOs) is the main event of a fight night billed as Fighting for Haiti, with 10 percent of the gate going toward Haiti relief and 100 percent of Berto's effort going to punch a Puerto Rican. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the nine-match fight card this Saturday at the BankAtlantic Center.
