Thou Art Fair

Basel schmasel. That's how the organizers of this weekend's Arteaméricas fair will respond to those judging their modest event by the standards of the titanic confab that makes Miami the hub of the international art world each winter. For its eighth edition, the boutique fair has scaled back from 70 to 40 participating galleries, which hail from Latin America, the United States, Europe, and the Caribbean.

This Friday through Monday at the Miami Beach Convention Center, the fair will showcase some of the latest trends in painting, sculpture, photography, and multimedia. Works by more than 300 artists will be on display. Local artist Edouard Duval-Carrié and the Haitian Art Relief Fund have invited artists to donate the proceeds from sold work to help artists suffering from the earthquake in Haiti. Fair honchos will also host "Contemporary Haitian Memory in Motion," a poignant survey of the many artists whose studios were destroyed during the calamity.
Mondays, Sundays, noon. Starts: March 28. Continues through March 29, 2010
