The Bard and His Beard

Even today, there’s debate among scholars and conspiracy theorists whether William Shakespeare was his real name. Yet despite the dearth of definite biographical data, there’s one thing we can say for sure about the Bard of Avon: Like most classy famous dudes of the 16th Century, he had a beautifully manicured beard.

This Saturday, pay tribute to Billy Shakes and his facial growth when SoBe Arts’ Little Stage Theater premieres its version of Twelfth Night. Directed by Carson Kievman, this Shakespearean comedy tells the tale of Olivia, who falls in love with a woman in drag, Viola, who falls in love with a duke, who also believes she’s a man. (Got that straight?) There’s also drinking, dancing, and much mirth — plus a bit of belching courtesy of, well, Sir Toby Belch
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 3 p.m. Starts: March 20. Continues through April 4, 2010
