Felonious Funk

Al Capone, Giuseppe Zangara, the Miami River cops, Yahweh Ben Yahweh, Andrew Cunanan, and Rory Conde are not your usual suspects. They are the crème de la crème of the murderers and malefactors coloring the Big Orange’s sordid history. They’ve provided the blood-flecked fodder for local crime and mystery writers who celebrate our town’s felonious past. At the Historical Museum of Southern Florida, a new exhibit titled “Crime in Miami” captures the 305’s lurid underbelly. This Thursday, the museum will host Crime Stories of the Magic City, a panel of South Florida’s wickedest scribes discussing the modus operandi behind their bone-chilling tales. Get the scoop straight from Les Standiford, editor of Miami Noir and author of the John Deal novels, and Edna Buchanan, Pulitzer-winning reporter and novelist. Hear how their pulse-quickening prose throttles the senses and reflects a homegrown depravity.
