There are only two fates for this Friday's Open Wings, Broken Strings performance at the Knight Concert Hall: It will either be a kitschy tribute to '90s alterative rock, or it will be a depressing plea for the artists' relevance in today's ADD-addled music culture.

Headlining this curious show will be Eddie Kowalczyk of Live, Art Alexakis of Everclear, and Leigh Nash of Sixpence None the Richer — yes, of "Kiss Me" fame. Instead of bringing their full bands and distortion, though, the three singers will come armed with acoustic guitars to perform stripped-down versions of their bands' most popular hits. As Kowalczyk says, "Quiet just might be the new loud."

An extra cool factor: The main floor of the Knight Concert Hall will be replaced with club-table seating and bars, creating the perfect venue for intimate, acoustic interpretations of fan favorites such as "I Alone." Here's to preserving the '90s!
Fri., March 12, 8 p.m., 2010
