Sometimes No Move Is the Best Move of All

Last month, several reports had the Miami Heat getting Amar'e Stoudemire from Phoenix at the NBA trade deadline. The Heat was also in serious 11th-hour negotiations with Utah for the services of Carlos Boozer.

Both deals, of course, showed Dwyane Wade the team's commitment to compete for an NBA title, so as to not see him playing in a Knicks uniform next season. But neither deal came to fruition, mainly because Pat Riley refused to part with Michael Beasley. And that might have been the best move of all. Making a move just for the sake of making a move while eradicating a key piece of the future would have been dumb. And though D-Wade is a free agent this summer, he still stands to make more if he re-signs with Miami. Adding someone like Stoudemire or Chris Bosh (or both!) while keeping Wade and an emerging star like Beasley equals The Awesome. The summer of 2010 is sure shaping up to be something. For now, we'll have to go with what we've got against the champion Los Angeles Lakers this Thursday.
