Founding Father

One of hip-hop's most storied performers will bring his old-school beats to Mansion this Friday as part of the club's weekly We Rock Hip Hop party. Grandmaster Flash, often credited for making the turntable an instrument, revolutionized the hip-hop world in the '80s with his group Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five. Songs such as "The Message" helped define the genre, and the master DJ has since elevated himself to new levels of popularity. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame honored Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, its first hip-hop inductees, in 2007, and Flash released a memoir and a new solo album, The Bridge, last year. Mansion's resident DJs Konflikt, Ideal, and EFX will also play, but be sure to catch Flash showing Miami's hip-hop hipsters how it's done.
