A Taste of Artopian Decadence

Costumed, gyrating girls; acrobatic stilt dancing; a dizzying orbit of live music and performance art. It might feel like you woke up in Eyes Wide Shut, but it's actually a steampunk-style Venetian carnival called Artopia. Presented by New Times and the Miami International Film Festival at the Freedom Tower (600 Biscayne Blvd., Miami), the fete will take place this Thursday at 7 p.m. It will feature the art of Francesco LoCastro; performances by Otto Von Schirach, electroclash act BFGF, the duo Afrobeta, and MC Notorious Nastie; entertainment by local burlesque troupe Circ X; and aerial feats by the Animate Objects Physical Theater. There will be free Puerto Rican rum cocktails, Barefoot Winery vino, and beers from Mad Hat Brewing Company, as well food from the spendy China Grill. This bacchanal will also honor the New Times MasterMind genius grant recipients, who have made Miami a much more interesting place to live.
Thu., Feb. 11, 7 p.m., 2010
