Like fellow New Yorkers Danny Tenaglia and Danny Morales, DJ Roger Sanchez has become one of the most ubiquitous names in the world of electronic dance music. He's an icon of the jet-setting transatlantic scene stretching from the East Coast to Ibiza, where he has held residencies every summer for the past decade. Bred on the NYC club scene, where he soaked up the city's melting pot of house, disco, hip-hop, and Latin sounds, Sanchez began producing in the mid-'90s. He staked his place on the house music charts with the release of his debut artist album, Secret Weapons Vol. 1, on his own One Records label. But his major breakthrough came in 2001 with the release of his sophomore effort, First Contact, from which the single "Another Chance" became a major hit, entering the UK Singles Chart at number one.
His accolades have only grown in the '00s. Sanchez has consistently placed in DJ Mag's Top 100 DJs poll every year, and in 2003, he won a Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for his remix of No Doubt's "Hella Good." In recent years, the DJ has maintained a hectic international touring schedule and has garnered further renown through his Release Yourself online radio show, which boasts more than a million listeners worldwide. Since 2006, it's also existed as a spin-off podcast, which won the very first Podcast Award at the International Dance Music Awards (IDMA). Sanchez will stop by Set in South Beach this Sunday to play in support of his latest compilation mix, Release Yourself Vol. 8.
