Although he has slipped aboveground these past few years with higher-profile projects such as Mysterious Skin with Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Smiley Face starring Anna Faris, radical gay filmmaker Gregg Araki originally made his name detailing the darkest zones of underground L.A. A seminal figure of the new queer cinema of the '80s and '90s, Araki emerged in 1987 before launching a few years later into his Teenage Apocalypse Trilogy, arguably the writer-director's defining text.

This Thursday at 8 p.m., your favorite local purveyor of all things edgy, Sweat Records, will present a screening of Nowhere, the final installment in Araki's three-movie cycle. Depicting a day and night of nonstop sex, casual violence, heavy drugs, and insane parties in the greater Lost Angeles area, this 1997 outsider epic has been called "90210 on acid," and that description is keeping it conservative.
