Many a girl has lost her singlehood to Air on a G String. Friends, that's not a track from 2 Live Crew's reunion album but a popular wedding processional based on Johann Sebastian Bach's Overture No. 3 in D Major. Bach wrote it, one of the most famous pieces of baroque music of all time, when he was working full-time for Prince Leopold for a little financial stability or maybe even health insurance for his 20 children. (Seems Bach's organ had no stops.) Think the Roots backing Jimmy Fallon.

This Friday, you can hear the overture in its entirety at the New World Symphony's Authentic Incarnations: Bach Is Back at the Lincoln Theatre, under the skillful baton of Edwin Outwater. Part of the Symphony With a Splash series, the performance begins at 7:30 p.m., but show up early to enjoy a free cocktail or two.
Fri., Jan. 29, 7:30 p.m., 2010
