Southwest Miami-Dade is a universe unto itself. Far removed from the urban core, its denizens still carry the distinct 305 swag, albeit heavily tempered by a deeply entrenched agro-centric history. Some folks say the recent spread of subdivision hell is choking out the Redland, and they’re right. But Miami’s bountiful countryside still has the goods. The Redland Festival, now in its 3rrd year, will draw thousands of people to the Fruit and Spice Park for commerce and entertainment at the only tropical botanical garden of its kind in the nation. More than 20 nurseries will be selling native plants and fruit trees, and amid the foliage you can expect magic, musicals, clowns, puppets, bluegrass music, and live animal shows.
