Hendrickss crooning is just one of the three acts that make up a unique show at the Arsht Center. Its name, Vocalese, comes from the style of vocal jazz invented by Hendricks. Coheadliners the Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices picked up the harmony and ran with it. Among the nine total performers (not including band accompaniment), Vocalese boasts 11 Grammys and more lung capacity than a zeppelin. The name of the game here is vocal inventiveness. Whether soloing, harmonizing, scatting, or just opening up the pipes, these cats can really sing.
This Fridays performance, however, is your only chance to hear them, so use your voice to call 305-949-6722 or your fingers to visit arshtcenter.org.
