We know what you’re thinking. Who needs another vampire book series? But word on the street is that The Vampire Academy is on an entirely different playing field than Twilight. Bella’s whole damsel-in-distress shtick annoyed a lot of modern gals, but in The Vampire Academy, Rose shows no signs of codependency; she’s the Sasha Fierce of vampires, kicking ass and taking names. This Sunday, Books & Books will host The Vampire Academy author Richelle Mead at Coral Gables Congregational Church. In addition to her young-adult best sellers, she also has penned fantasy books for adults: the Georgina Kincaid and Dark Swan series. Mead will autograph books, take photos with fans, and preview a chapter from her much-anticipated tome, Spirit Bound.
