Drunken Masters

More About

Steve Beck is no stranger to tilting at windmills. For the past four months, he’s been struggling to dose his patch of Krome Avenue with an edgy art vibe, and his gamble might pay off with “Interviews Under the Influence,” a group show featuring six locals working in a diversity of media at the Gallery Space.

“Joe Parker’s sculptures are influenced by Kafka,” Beck informs. “One of his heads has a rat in its maw. Sandra Garcia’s molten metal pieces are distinctly minimal, and Nancy Coppola’s photos are stunning. This is a powerful show.”

Beck himself has created a work featuring a suspended gate and dangling crutches. “They’re hugely symbolic and a metaphor for a myopic folly,” Beck laughs. “Man, this is like a fricking black hole.”

Stop by this Saturday between 4 and 7 p.m., when Beck and company host an artists’ reception for the show. Admission is free.
Sat., Dec. 26, 4 p.m., 2009
