The Other Hammertime

It’s a misnomer to call Brit bad boy Rusko, AKA Christopher Mercer, a disciple of dubstep. Sure, the 24-year-old DJ, producer, and remixer made his name on the underground London garage scene with moody booty epics that sorta fit the dubstepper formula of dark, choppy beats at 140 bpm. But, thing is, he’s always been a bit of a blasphemer. And club killers such as “Hammertime” and “Cockney Thug” prove it, tossing shots of ’90s nostalgia, blogginess, and amped-up pop into the holy water.

With that kind of disregard for genre ritual, it was really only a matter of nanoseconds before the Mad Decent label added Rusko to its already hipsterrific roster. So the shock was minor when the world discovered he had permanently relocated from London to L.A. to join forces with Switch, Diplo, and the rest of the cool crew. The shock, however, was major when 305-ers found out Rusko would temporarily relocate from L.A. to Miami for this Saturday’s edition of Arcade at White Room. A tip: Dress like a disciple with an ass full of blasphemy. The party starts at 8 p.m., and tickets cost $15.
